This is important to me, I don't know how others feel...

I can open non project related files and have them displayed in the editor
(.txt files for example), and if I open them with File -> Open then they
aren't seen as part of the project and VX doesn't try to compile them or
anything. Fine.
I need this because I am used to having my history.txt, todo.txt and read.me
files for my project open in the editor with the rest of the project.

However, these files are not remembered and reopened when I next load the
project, so I have to open the project and then open the additional files
each time which defeats the objective. At the moment, I have to also have my
old editor open alongside VX to display these extra files because I can set
the other editor to reload the files it had opened when it was closed.

Also, I have the colourscheme set to "Classic" to simulate the old power
basic DOS editor I always loved using years ago - so the background is Navy
Blue. When I open a text file, the text is black and I can hardly read it
without killing my head!!! How do I change the text colour displayed when a
text file is opened?

I may be mistaken but I thought that someone at Alaska showed how to do 
this. I think you just add to the project file.(?)

Thanks Jim, I'll give it a go.
I didn't want to add to the project file without checking in case VX tried
to compile the non project related files and it messed things up.

Simon,

we designed VX in a way to allow adding files to your
project which are not associated with any Xbase++
tool. Therefore it is safe to use Context-Menu->Add-Existing-File
on the target-node in your project-manager to add a
existing TXT file.

Now VX loads your TXT files the next time
your project gets openened. However PBUILD
ignores that type of files.

This behaviour is guaranteed because we want to
have that feature more flexible in the future - for example
having word or visio files in your project and VX
can handle them for you.

Regarding your color question it is true that the
current VX does use black as foreground color
for all non-source files such as a txt file or the
XPJ file. This will be configurable in future
releases so you can have your navy-blue
background and white-foreground color then.

Wich kind of files PBUILD recognize? *.PRG and *.CH
and ignore other extension?
I have some text files with *.DDF extension are they

PBuild recognied PRG/CH/RES/OBJ/LIB/ARC files
any other extension it simple does ignore.

 So you can safely add your TEST.DDF file to
 your XPJ files target-node.

 VX itself currently only supports *.txt files
 to be added to the project because for this
 type of file it can provide editing capabilities.

Just for your information, you say that PBuild ignores .txt files. However,
having added my .txt file to the project as you describe I find that upon
compiling I get the line in the message window:

[Hint] : Project.xpj(25:0) Warning: Unknown suffix history.txt

etc.
Is this normal?

Also, using the context menu -> Add Existing File approach limits the files
I can add. It should really assume that any unknown extensions are text
files. I have data for my application stored in a .dat file which is simply
a text file containing settings and I cannot open the .dat for editing.

yes this warning is OK - at least with the PBUILD version
provided with Xbase++ 1.82.

Please do not feel confused by this warning it is safe
to ignore it.

Regarding the context-menu Add-Existing-Files you
are right, we will add a .* extension to the file filter.
As a workaround for your .dat files simple add them
to your targetnode in the XPJ file using notepad.
