Does anyone have experience using TFS for xBase source control?
Any tips, suggestions, tools?

I take TFS is team Foundation Server from Microsoft?

Never used it, never will - there are plenty of free and open source VCS
(version control system) out there.

Ages ago, I have used Visual Source Safe, also from M$ - based on the
experience with VSS, I never will use M$ version control software again

need for the small one-man development department that I am

Yes, you right both for TFS meaning and experience. We have currently source 
controlled by SVN. Unfortunately....

What was wrong with it? I'm just curious, we don't use version control 
program yet, but played with the thought that svn would be good...

Most likely Vladimir has other constraints apart from technical ones (such
as company policy)...
