Richard A. PulliamHow to connect to ADS
on Thu, 05 Feb 2015 13:24:59 -0600
I installed ADS 10.10 in my computer and started it. Is running.

My software (xwood.exe) is located in C:\TimberKing\XWood, so I mapped this
folder to Z:

In another computer I can execute Z:XWOOD.EXE but I can not connect to ADS.
I tried using Z: , The folder where ADS was installed, \\USER-PC\Xwood, etc.

I think a long time ago I found a function that figures where the connection
is. Something about the existence of a hidden file. Not sure. Is there
such thing? What is the function?

I have not worked with ADS in years. I did not make any changes to the
default ADS install.

Thanks.

It is very easy to connect to ADS.

1. You are running ADS on your computer and trying to connect to it
from another Computer. Is this correct.
2. Do you have a firewall enabled on your computer running ADS. It
uses port 6262 by default, unless you changed it in the ADS configuration.
3. On your workstation you should be able to connect to ADS on your
computer by simply using the drive letter g:.
4. You may need to add an ads.ini file in the directory from which your
program is written. Its format is as follows:

ads.ini

[SETTING]
ADS_SERVER_TYPE=2

[COMPUTERNAMEOFADSSERVER]
LAN_IP=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
LAN_PORT=6262

Hi!

Yes, I am running ADS on my computer and executing it within my wireless
home network after I mapped my computer to Z:. (Slow!!!!!)

It is now connecting to ADS when not executing on a local drive, otherwise,
it defaults to FOXCDX.

I believe the Advantage Configuration Utility should display how many Users
and Tables are in use. It shows 0 for both. Is this normal? I am not
using an Advantage Dictionary, does that have anything to do with that?

Thanks for your help. I know how good ADS is and I have 2 clients ready to
buy it to avoid index corruption. First, I have to get it to work great.

Richard,

Yes, the users, connections work areas and tables s/b displaying. I'm
staring at a screen right now with 29 users, 39 connections, 614 work
areas and 25 files under current.

If you're showing 0, them somethin' ain't right...

If you connect via the advantage database architect, it will show at
least on user, but no files unless you open some. You have to watch on
wireless networks that it can find the server.

On my laptop with ADS running on it, in database architect, I put c: and
it shows 1 user, 1 connection, no files.
Richard A. PulliamRe: How to connect to ADS - Can I connect to ADS through a wireless modem attached to the Internet?

I am trying to communicate through a wireless modem attached to the
internet. Maybe I need to be on an Ethernet connected laptop?

I am testing this at home, but when I send it to my client, I hope all I
have to tell him is to start ADS and run my program. He uses Windows
Server with wired to computers. Program has been working great for years
without ADS.

If you connect via the advantage database architect, it will show at
least on user, but no files unless you open some. You have to watch on
wireless networks that it can find the server.

On my laptop with ADS running on it, in database architect, I put c: and
it shows 1 user, 1 connection, no files.
