Does anyone know if there is a setting to keep the record pointer on the
same record while browsing through a file?

Hi Thomas...

What version of Xbase 2.0 or pre 2.0?  In 2.0 the browse behaviour was
changed... look at XbpBrowse:navigationMode in the docs.

If by chance you are using Clayton's TopDown he by default sets
XbpBrowse:navigationMode := XBPBRW_NAVIGATION_1XCOMPATIBLE which was
the pre 2.0 mode.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for???
