Pascal Boivin | Update to 2.0.556 took 25 minutes on Tue, 14 Oct 2014 15:33:36 +0200 Hi I received my first update for Xbase 2, build 556. Everything went ok but... it took 25 minutes! I didn't see antivirus or Windows update at the same time. My PC is an HP Z400 with an Intel Xeon 4 x 2.67ghz and 12Gb RAM. This PC is usually fast. It is not a bug, it is just slow! Anyone notice the same thing as me?
Andreas Herdt | Re: Update to 2.0.556 took 25 minutes on Wed, 15 Oct 2014 16:32:39 +0200 Hello Mr Boivin, We have already realized that under conditions that we can not determain, yet, the installation / update speed differs significantly from what should be considered "normal". We will take care on that. However: Where i can find the details of this update, what has changed ? Hi Jack, If you go into the workbench and go into Help --> Update Manager and then click on the "Installation History" tab you will see each update build that you have applied. If you then click on the Build that you would like to see details in the right pane you will see a "Changes per Feature" list. To the left of each change you will see an arrow which when clicked on will expand to give the specifics to to changes. I have been told that you can also do this before actually installing the build update but obviously this would be under the "Avaialable Updates" tab instead of the "Installation History". Hope this helps... Regards... Jonathan
Andreas Herdt | Re: Update to 2.0.556 took 25 minutes on Sat, 18 Oct 2014 20:31:37 +0200 Jonathan is perfectly right. Additional to this, please lookup in the documentation: Release Information -> Xbase++ -> Changelog per build This carries the same information. When talking to Xbase++ users at the conference I would assume an avarange of 50% encountering the problem. However, we have seen this already on our machines and will care for it in one of the next updates. I discovered "SearchIndexer.exe" is doing intensive disk usage while and AFTER the update. This update use "MsiExec" to install, and I beleive xbase also use this. I beleive MsiExec trigger something wrong in SearchIndexer and there is nothing you can do about it.

The Windows search indexer can be quite a problem - I always switch it off, because the benefit of a faster search does not justify the load it randomly puts on your machine. Thomas

I make sure my antivirus (AVG) was up to date before and the only other process running was Xananews (a little Newsreader).
Andreas Herdt | Re: Update to 2.0.556 took 25 minutes on Wed, 17 Dec 2014 16:15:34 +0100 Hello Mr Boivin, We have not done any activities that would speed up the installation process, insofar we do not expect any improvement in this area. The difference between 25 Minutes vs. 17 Minutes are "by chance". I hope the update process was a smooth experience in anything other aspect. For the first time my anti-virus software kicked in complaining about asget.exe (had seen that on different other posts). After the install I was left with a non-activated installation (perhaps because I had an external drive attached at the time?). Re-activation was no problem. Peter
