hi,

we have a Discussion in German Xbase++ Forum about
Xbase++ SL1 v1.9.355 and Win 64bit Pro  XbpRadiobutton  Manifest

as soon "he" use Manifest his Xbase++ Application "hang".
It work without Manifest !!!

we figure out that Hotfix-Rollup #22 with XppUi1.dll from 23.10.09
make the Problem and that after No.22 a "other" User of the Forum
got a "other" XppUi1.dll which works.

Now we are looking for the "officel" Release of "that" XppUi1.dll
from Alaska ... or a "OK" from Alaska that the User can "share" it
as Part of the Runtime DLL ?!

Hi Jimmy,

We have provided several Hotfixes in the past that tackle
issues on the Windows 7 platform that are not covered by the
latest bunch of Hotfix Rollups. Furthermore we have released
Hotfixes for PDRs that have been introduced with those Hotfix
Rollups.

This has been done in accordance with our product maintenance
policy that can be found here:

http://www.alaska-software.com/fixes/overview.shtm

Hotfixes are not allowed to be "shared". The rules as defined in
the lincense aggreement are still valid.

Currently we are preparing another bunch of Hotfix Rollups. All
issues known to us regarding the Windows 7 platform for wich we
have created Hotfixes in the meantime will be covered with that
forthecoming release. Xbase++ developers who are entitled for
Hotfix Rollup download can lay hands on those improvements
immediately after the release.

Hope this clearify things.

Hi Jimmy,

Ok, Hope I can clearify things.

The "other" user got a xppui1.dll which fixes a problem. This is
what we call a Hotfix. A Hotfix can be requested by active Customers
from Alaska Software Technical support on demand.

What you name "sharing" is a redistribution. The redistribution is
pretty clearly defined in the license agreement. The answer to your
question is NO, it is not "OK".

Additionally to your question I have written this:

 > Currently we are preparing another bunch of Hotfix Rollups

This means that some Hotfix Rollup are on their way that also include
the said fix. Upon availability all active customers can download the
Hotfix Rollups.

Does this answer your question now?

I need to be more precise on this:

A Hotfix can be requested by active "Subscription with Technical
Support" Customers from Alaska Software Technical support on demand.

so you confirm that Alaska know about it !?
Why does Alaska do not told registerd User about it ?

as i say, it took a log time in German Xbase++ Forum, while
we had different "Runtime" DLL, to find the Problem and "simulate"
it on other User PC.

Xppload seem not to show "hot-fix" Version ?

Same Situation can happend to every Developer when they can
not "simulate" a User Problem while have different "Runtime" Version.

it woud be nice if User than can dowload "lates Runtime" (all Version)
direct from Alaska Website

Hi Jimmy,

The core problem seems to be that you have had trouble to realize that
you have compared apples and oranges.

I agree that it can be very helpfull if xppload.exe would also list
the Hotfix Rollup number the library carries. This could also
be very helpfull for us in communication with our customers.

I have opened PDR 6259 to cover the issue:

http://www.alaska-software.com/scripts/waa001.dll?WAA_PACKAGE=PUBLICDTS&WAA_FORM=DISPLAYPDR&PDRID=6259

The platform to communicate known issues is the Alaska Software
Knowledgebase. As soon as we have identified a problem this is
publicly known to everybody. I agree that in this special case we
could improve communication for problems that have been introduced
by some Hotfix Rollups.

Let me stress one single point as I feel that this is not very clear
yet. There is a difference between a Hotfix and a Hotfix Rollup.

Hotfixes are provided in a 1:1 relationship and fix a specific
problem. They give us the ability to provide support within a short
period of time. They will not be automatically released.

A Hotfix Rollup on the other hand is a collection of solutions
sometimes with entirely different implementations. Of course those
latest runtimes can be downloaded from our website.

We have very positive feedback from our customers, as this policy
let us react very fast for specific needs. Furthermore this policy
allows us to release improvements on a more regular base within a
much shorter timeframe as it would be possible with a new Xbase++
release.

With my best regards,
