Jose Adriano Baltieri | TCP/IP for DOS on Tue, 18 Jun 2002 08:25:12 -0300 Hello Group ! Have some Clipper applications that deal with telephony using a 3rd party product. It answer calls from a 0800 and talks to a Unisys mainframe using a proprietary protocol. Also have faxing, voice recording, e-mail integration and etc. Well, I'd like so much to XPPit but, that 3rd party telephony product wont go to Windows nor XBase++ and, also, we dont have a "on-the-shelf", cheap product to deal with Telephony & XBase++. Wish we had. Anyway, I need to do that Clipper application talk to the mainframe with TCP/IP. The proprietary protocol is about to loose support. So, finally, TCP/IP for DOS ? Or, a telephony library that we could use inside XBase++ ? Does anyone knows something about it ? Does anyone has a working product for that ? thanXs for any kind of helPP ! -- Obrigado/Thanks a Lot, Jose Adriano Baltieri Analista de Sistemas/Systems Analyst CPD - CENTRO / Data Processing Dept UNIMEP - Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba/ UNIMEP - Methodist University of Piracicaba PIRACICABA - SP - BRASIL Fone : 055 0 XX 19 3124-1858 (english spoken) Fax : 055 0 XX 19 3124-1898 (cx postal 42778) | |

The problem is that, they dont seem to have a "voice mail" library, if you know what I mean. They have something to dial and work with faxes but, to dump wav files into the phone call is another story... Anyway, I'll try to mail'em for more info. Please let us know what you find. I'm real interested to know what is available in this area. Right now I use the MarshallSoft Library for email, but I need a Fax solution similar to Faxual II. Always more to do than time allows. So do I. And, to complicate even more the things (or to make them better), my will to do a lot is also enormous. Self pressure stress Just kidding. I just wanna say I'm very motivated. Like so much XBase++ and, have wish to do lots of things with it, beyond the ones I've done already. Miss the time, this is true. But, let's go to the issue... > > > >The problem is that, they dont seem to have a "voice mail" library, > >if you know what I mean. Ok. Knew Faxual II a long time ago but discarded it cause, needed voice interactions. What I do is that I have, amongst other things at the voice-mail platform, a fax server. It dials and, when "B side" picks up the call, it says "Hello, this is a fax call from UNIMEP. Please, press your start button". Because, many offices wont receive your fax if you dont identify yourself. Also, when I receive faxes, I pick up the call and say : "Hello, this is UNIMEP's automatic fax receival system. Please dial the destination mail box no". And, the fax will fall into the user's mail box account as an e-mail message. Of course, there's also the 0800 system wich just cant live without voice (and fax too). Had heard something about Teletopia, guess Mr Robert or something like that. The fact is : haven't heard anything else. IMHO, this is a missing area of XBase++. On the other major market areas, there's a covering. Say for Internet, GUI, development tools and so far. But, for telephony there's nothing. Also think there should be something "affordable for all" or, something that could start from simple single cheap voice fax modem cards enabling one to move up even to Dialogic boards but, only and if they could... Sorry for being so "over talkative". John D. Sauvigne | Re: TCP/IP for DOS on Tue, 18 Jun 2002 13:45:29 -0400 Hi Clayton, Another alternative to faxing is to email the fax to a fax service and let them fax it out. $.08 / page or less within the US, no long distance charges, and you don't have to mess with the modem connections, phone lines, tying up the computer, etc. I use the MarshallSoft Library to email the text file to VisionLab (www.visionlab.com) and let them do all the work. Plus they provide all the reporting and tracking functions online for my customers. I sign up my customers into one account at VisionLab which they discount for me so I make the spread on each fax they send. I'm not at that place in the app conversion yet, but it's looming over the horizon. Thanks. For instance : the purchasing dept sends invitations to several suppliers for some product we're needing to buy. The fax server dispatches all of the invitations (broadcast). It may try up to 12 times for a given number. Finally, it will abandon this number and will go to the original database and flag that supplier as "unreached". The purchasing dept may know that on-line and call to the supplier before the dead line. But all of this sophistication is nowadays too exagerated cause, most of our invitations will leave from the system by e-mail and, on the e-mail the supplier has a link that will lead him/her to a dynamic html form where he/she'll type in his/her prices and send, right into the database again. With the fax answer, the purchasing dept has to type it all. But, many suppliers still dont have a computer. So, back to the fax... There's also the fax on demand side that you should also consider... Again, we need the voice-mail library. > John. > > ------------------------------------- > > Clayton Jones wrote: > > >Hello Jose, > > > > > > > >>How are you doing cj ? > >> > >> > > > >Doing well here, thanks.
