Phil Ide | web log analysis on Wed, 01 Jun 2005 16:18:51 +0100 I've just been performing some analysis of our Apache web logs. For our main server, which has 9 WAA packages attached to two instances of WAA, we have a data transfer (send to client) of 35GB over the last 11 months. I've produced graphs to show growth/usage and they show a steady climb in the number of users and (unsurprisingly) the number of pages/resources requested. We hit a peak in January of around 16,000 hits a day and a mean growth of around 170% over the 11 months. Whilst the total hits per day is now less than the Januray high, the average per day is much higher than before Christmas. Growth (usage) is expected to accelerate over the next 6 months, and since all the business being conducted on the web is new business, I guess this is pretty good news. I'm not a huge fan of statistics (when they are produced by someone else ), but used well they can give a very clear picture of what is going on. Now I have to compare the Apache logs against the WebStats produced from the WAA logs, to highlight areas for optimisation and to help prioritise which areas get scheduled code-maintanence first...
