I am looking for the definitive setup for WAA ver 1.80 on Windows 2003
Server using IIS ver 6.0.
In IIS I have "allowed" all unknown CGI Extensions.
I am in need of preferred file extension for WAA1GATE gateway and its
install location, the install location for WAA1GATE.CFG, and special
tweaking to IIS, in short, a simple recipe of "do this, do that, you're
done, it will work".
Coming from a fully functional installation on Win 2000 Server, but I have
problems on the Win 2003.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use Apache instead of IIS?
I found Apache to be easier to set up, but haven't tried it on Wndows 2003
server yet. This is going to be my next project, to set up Apache on Windows
2003 server as a service.

BTW, anybody knows how to set up WAA as a service?

I use Apache 2.x on W2K3 without problems.

> BTW, anybody knows how to set up WAA as a service?

WAA cannot be run properly as a service, because the user is required to
have access to the WAA console. You could try and use a 3PP tool which can
run 'normal' apps as services, but you need to be able to configure it so
it displays the WAA console. If you don't then the only way to stop WAA
once it is running is to crash it.

Are you going to the devcon? I may be able to show you something that that
will help you.

It would be easier if I were independently wealthy, but I'm not and IIS is
the deal. Or maybe WAA does not work with Win 2003 Server. Hannes, what say
you? Is WAA obsoleted by Win 2003 Server? Any kind of response will be
appreciated. I would prefer to not chase my tail looking for the impossible
solution.

Hi Bruce!

Take a look at my posting for "waa1gate.exe sometimes runs several..."of
10/28/2004

No "socket" errors since I took Vladimir's advice and
change 1024 to 1020! I know you had same problem.
Also, on that posting, you will see what now works GREAT for me on Apache
1.3 and Win 2003 server.
After all those wasted hours and nasty patches......

Can anyone help this poor boy see the flaw in his WAA Windows 2003 Server
setup? On Windows 2000 Server this works, but I must be overlooking an
obvious error.

This is the error message on the IE6 client when trying to connect to the
website.

   "WAA1GATE cannot establish connection to WAA1SRV : (10061)Unknown error "

This is the setup on the server:

   c:\alaska\waa1w32\server\WAA1SRV.EXE

   c:\windows\system32\WAA1GATE.CFG

   c:\inetpub\wwwroot\cgi-bin\WAA1GATE.ISA

   WAA1SRV.EXE is running.

   WAA1GATE.CFG assigns port 1024 to WAA1SRV.EXE

netstat shows WAA1SRV.EXE is LISTENING to port 1024

   path=c:\alaska\waa1w32\server

IIS has "All Unknown CGI Extensions" as status:Allowed

Sorry, correction, once I tried accessing the website from a "typical"
client rather than from inside my network, I get a "404 - The page cannot be
found" error when I POST a form to "cgi-bin\waa1gate.isa". WAA1SRV.log is
not showing any activity. Something is not connecting, but I don't know
what. Any suggestions, please?

Possibilities:

1. Rights issue
2. URL should be /cgi-bin/waa1gate.isa not /cgi-bin\waa1gate.isa
3. Local (software) firewalling issue?
4. .isa not a recognised file type? (try renaming to .dll)

Just guessing, I don't use IIS.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Rights issue: I have other, non-WAA websites on this same server and they
are working. Also, I get the problem website's initial page that has the
form. It is only when I submit the form that it breaks.
URL: My typo in this news post. The code is OK. I am moving a fully
functional app from a Win 2000 server to a Win 2003 server.
Firewall: Not the problem. Both old and new servers are on the same LAN
behind a common firewall.
ISA: I will try this rename in a test, but there is so much to change if
this is the problem. Also, I did set that web extension thing to allow any
extension as Vladimir Iahnenco suggested on 08/11/2004, but maybe there is
more to this operation than flipping a switch.

I am starting to believe WAA does not work on Win 2003 Server. Nobody has
yet stepped forward with a success story. Nobody in Alaska has ever made
any comment/update to the install of WAA on Win 2003 Server, the world's
overwhelmingly dominant OS company's official current product. If so, WAA
is d-e-a-d.

I was thinking more of a the firewalling features of W2K3.

I had WAA running on a W2K3 server, but moved it to a W2K because we were
required to seperate our web- and data-servers.

However, I can assure you that WAA is NOT dead. I'll run some tests on
W2K3 later today (Apache server) and let you know what happens.

I just ran WAA up on th W2K3 server without problems. I ran a few tests on
one of our main applications using an intranet test site address, and
everything went ok.

AFAIK, the current Alaska WAA Website (knowledgebase et.) ist running Win
2003 Server. So maybe sending an email to Alaska support could help.

Hi Bruce,
Did you try waa1gate.exe. If it doesn't work, you may send me waa and
waa1gate cfg files along with IIS tree snapshots for cgi-bin and your app
directory properties.
Check in waa1gate.cfg if hostname = your computer name
Try to switch both waa and waa1gate to another port, I had an issue when the
port was busy.
Check if scripts and executables allowed both in cgi-bin and your app
folders

Kind savants,
The attachment is a zipped MSWord doc with screen shots of all items I can
think of that have to do with putting a WAA website onto a Windows 2003
Server IIS 6.0. It isn't working. I don't know why. It works just fine on
W2000 IIS 5.0. There has to be "one more thing" that those of you who have
truly made WAA work on W2003 are doing. I have run out of airspeed,
altitude, and ideas all at the same time. Have any of you any suggestions,
insights, etc?
Thanks

Bruce,
I do hope it is that easy as it seems to me.
I used to have a slightly different <FORM...>-line in my index.html
I used WAA together with Apache, but my action-tag was
ACTION="/cgi-bin/waa1gate.exe" and not
ACTION="cgi-bin/waa1gate.exe"

Bruce,

I have WAA working correctly on a Windows Server 2003 OS.

I use the name WAA1GATE.ISA, not WAA1GATE.EXE.
I also have "All Unknown ISAPI Extensions"-Allowed and "All Unknown CGI
Extensions"-Prohibited.
