Andreas Gehrs-Pahl | VX destroyed my notebook! on Wed, 24 Dec 2003 07:21:10 -0500 Wonderful -- NOT! I installed VX on my XP Prof. notebook and recompiled a copy of my main project, just to see what happens. I played around with all the options and problems, and was writing some problem-report posts on my Win98 computer, when the notebook run out of battery power and shut down. This is nothing too special and has happened several times before without any problems -- usually not even needing a scandisk after such a shutdown. But now, I can't get it to start up anymore. I don't even get the BIOS startup screen. Nothing happens. Only the fan starts up after a few minutes. Blank screen, no disk access, absolutely nothing is happening. There wasn't anything on that computer that I don't have also on my desktop, so I didn't loose any data, but what could VX possibly be doing to completely fry my computer??? I'll bet the warranty run out last week! Of course, the whole thing could be pure coincidence, but I do wonder... -- Andreas --- --- Andreas Gehrs-Pahl E-Mail: GPahl@CharterMI.net 415 Gute Street or: Andreas@DDPSoftware.com Owosso, MI 48867-4410 or: Andreas@Aerospace-History.net Tel: (989) 723-9927 Web Site: http://www.Aerospace-History.net --- ---
Andreas Herdt | Re: VX destroyed my notebook! on Wed, 24 Dec 2003 12:46:51 +0100 Hi Andreas, Well, its Christmas and maybe Santa will bring a new Laptop that is bigger, better, faster .... VX can not corrupt a PC in such a manor that the bios will not come up. This would mean that VX can currupt hardware. Currently there is no way to program hardware drivers with Xbase++, but we work on that Regards Andreas Herdt ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Alaska Research & Development Homepage: www.alaska-research.com Newsgroup: nntp://news.alaska-Software.net ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Andreas Gehrs-Pahl wrote: > Wonderful -- NOT! > > I installed VX on my XP Prof. notebook and recompiled a copy of my main > project, just to see what happens. Mike Grace | Re: VX destroyed my notebook! on Wed, 24 Dec 2003 12:56:31 +0000 It sound to me that your laptop decided to go pop anyway. If you are not getting the display up then it could be a motherboard failure. Andreas Gehrs-Pahl | Re: VX destroyed my notebook! on Wed, 24 Dec 2003 10:27:28 -0500 Josep and all, >maybe unpluggin the batery and the power and wait for a minute cant help. >My notebook uses to do it. Yes, I unplugged all cables, let the notebook cool down, and after half an hour or so, I plugged the notebook in again, and let it recharge the battery. After another hour or so, I tried to start it again, and now everything is working again. Probably just some fluke with the battery (or the whole notebook) being to hot? Who knows. Back to testing. I have another couple of hours to play with this. -- Andreas --- --- Andreas Gehrs-Pahl E-Mail: GPahl@CharterMI.net 415 Gute Street or: Andreas@DDPSoftware.com Owosso, MI 48867-4410 or: Andreas@Aerospace-History.net Tel: (989) 723-9927 Web Site: http://www.Aerospace-History.net --- ---

Cliff Wiernik | Re: VX destroyed my notebook! on Thu, 25 Dec 2003 13:16:07 -0600 I had a toshiba Satellite that when the battery was completely run down, pressing the on switch did nothing until I replugged it in and had at least 5-10 minutes of battery recharged.
