With the impending release of version 1.9 in the next few months, I was
wondering if there was any interest in a DevCon in the late fall?? It has
been a long time since we all got together, and this release would be a
great opportunity for Alaska and all of the 3rd party people to get together
and show off their stuff. Extended Systems has already shown interest in
participating (1.9 now supports ADT's).

There may even be some interest from the Europeans to come over here. The
Euro is still kicking ass, and the price of flights is not that crazy!

If there is enough interest, I would pursue starting to organize one.

Let me know...

Thank you all for the interest!

I am waiting to hear back from Steffen about the release date(s) of 1.9.
The value of this whole DevCon is the availability of 1.9 and ability to be
able to have 1.9 releated sessions by Alaska and the 3rd Party community. I
am not in favor, and I expect no body would attend a DevCon UNLESS 1.9 was
the centerpiece of it.

I will keep you posted...

Regards,

Jim

I think even without 1.9 being in "GA" state, a Devcon will make sense.

As I have understood from Steffens messages, 1.9 is feature complete and
there will be nothing else than fine tuning and bug fixing work until the
release.

It looks like a US DevCon will have to wait until the"Spring" - probably in
April of 2006. Alaska is very busy planning an organizing the release of
1.9 and adding planning for a DevCon would put to much strain on the
organization. So in the upcoming months I will begin seeking input and
planning for the April DevCon. This will give Alaska plenty of time to
allow them to focus on DevCon preparation.

Stay tuned in to this NG....

Jim,
great news! I - personally - think it to be better to have the DevCon not

It would have been too short a time to organize it.

I am considering hosting a Spring Devcon in Boise, Idaho.
This is also the home of Extended Systems.

It's a 1-hour flight away from Vegas and 1-1/2 hours from San Francisco.
Spring is much nicer in Idaho than eastern US.

Also, the hotel rates are much better here.

The small, extra cost in air-fare would be over-compensated by the hotel
costs.

Boise is a long way from Kingston, ON but I have been there a couple of
times for Advantage Training (they put on a great course and look after
you really well!). I might be persuaded.

Tom,

It has been a long time since I have heard from you. After getting married,
you have finally come up for air! I hope all is well.

Austria in November... Hmmmmm

Hello Eka,

I didn't know you were working on the international space station! How does Sulzfeld look from up there?

Best regards,

Michael.

Impossible - the ISS is only between 348 and 350 km above sea level...

Eka's 80000km is nearly 1/4 of the way to the moon

Very small (if you can see it at all)

Hello Thomas,

actually I reduced my message before posting it. In my first draft I stated that I also didn't
know that the ISS was orbiting higher than geo-stationary satellites.

I would have guessed so.

About a fifth, I'd say.

Yesterday I took a ride in a hot air balloon. We started in Buchbrunn (about 10 km. north of Sulzfeld)
but due to adverse wind conditions (from the south-west) we floated north east and I had no way of
getting a glimpse of Sulzfeld. After a we finally touched down a little north of Dettelbach I was made the:

Freiherr Michael of the mild autumn air,
over the Main river low going motor pilot,
in his persuit to explore the sea of air,
and finally touching down with an honarary's landing.

During the ceremony I lost some of my little left hair to a flame which was extinguished with
some sparkling wine and almost drowned me. I was informed that I now own everything betweeen
Buchbrunn and our landing site that his higher than 1 Klafter above the ground. This makes me
part-time owner of the ISS (and of the moon) due to earth revolution. But I was recommended not
to tell anyone because if someday there was an air tax, I'd be pretty much broke.

Best regards,

Michael.

Hello Frans,

thanks for being so grndlich. I actually approximated my value:

250.000 miles ("a quarter of a million miles") and multiplied it with 1.6 (km/statute mile) which
results in a of distance 400.000 km.

Regards,

Michael.
