All,

There are still minor adjustments being made, but it is mostly complete.

http://www.xbasedevcon.com:8001/
https://www.xbasedevcon.com:543/

The site is developed in Xbase++ using several 3rd party products available
to all of us.

Steffen told me that he encountered problems using the secure version, I
have used if without any problems...

Please note that there is another application occupying ports 80&443 on that
server, My Running Club which is also an XB2Net application....

Please share any comments or criticisms of the site so that I can make it
better: xbaseusdevcon ~at~ proteledata.com (This address is already being
spammed!)

The registration page will be done shortly...

This site will be updated daily, so check back often!!!

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Hi Jim,

The site looks great. Looks like an exciting conference.

Just as an FYI, I can not get to the secure site. It just times out, both
in firefox and IE.

Anyway, I hope to be able to make the conference. I'll know in a few weeks.

Stu.

Stu,
same with me! Guess that's why one gets a "still under construction" when
trying to follow the register link from the first url.

Regards,
Martin

The problem may be due to the fact that the "Certificate" has a different
Domain than the Web site. I will change out the certificate later on and
retry it...

Hi Jim,

This one also does not work for me. I have no need to get to the secure
site however, I just wanted you to know that it was not working for more
people than Stefen.

Stu.

Hi Jim,

there is a small typo on the session site: Tuesday and Wednesday have
the same date...

Greetings
Markus

Jim,
the same typo is still on the "Conference Meal Plan" (with Wednesday having
a wrong date as well).

Thanks for catching that!!

I fixed it.

The menu is slightly changing to, it's getting better....

I thought that "cut & paste" errors were just limited to my .PRG files. It
seems it spread to my .HTM files. Nasty virus....

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

Have been trying both links off and on for couple of days.

Nonsecure has connected from the gitgo.

Secure just connected for the first time for me.

I finally figured out and corrected the NAT issue with my firewall. I had
not port forwarded port 543 for the domain to the internal IP address of the
server running the website.

Ooooops!

Jim,

>spammed!)

I don't know what the problem is, but I get (most of the time) messed-up
pages! In addition, as I can't see the source of the pages, and the
"noframes.htm" does not seem to exist, it is quite difficult -- if not
impossible -- to use this site!

I am using IE 6 and have client-side scripting, cookies, Active-X, etc.
disabled.

In addition, if I do get the "Breaking News" page, I can't actually read any
of the News, as the "View" buttons (if they are buttons) do not do anything,
probably because they require scripts or something similar.

I couldn't do any additional testing from other computers, as the site just
went down. The "MyRunningClub.com" site on port 80 is still up, though.

Is there any chance that you could make the site more accessible, by not
requiring scripting and possibly by fixing the frame issues?

I am looking forward to registering as soon as I can access the site!

Thanks,

-- Andreas

I believe that Jim is using AJAX technics on this site. This would
require the Client side scripting be turned on.

As usual I can't read the attached files. You are the only one that I
can't get attachments from (Using Mozilla). I believe you have said you
use 40'tude. Others also use this client but I don't have problems with
anyone elses attachments but yours.

I just tested it with scripting turned on, and it works (much better).

We had this discussion many times before. I don't have a clue why you can't
get the attachments, as they are normal uuencoded files. I have noticed that
several other 40-tude users use MIME-encoded attachments, which you can
apparently read. On the other hand, you also said that you can read the
attachments of others (that use Outlook Express) and post uuencoded files,
so I have no clue what the problem is. I (and most others) can get my
attachments just fine, using a variety of programs, from 40-tude to Outlook
Express and even Linux text-based news readers like tin. So I have to assume
that it must be a problem with your specific news reader.

I don't like to use MIME-attachments, as they are intended for EMail
clients, and many News Readers don't know what to do with them, while
uuencoded attachments were specifically designed and intended for use
with News Readers.

If you want to see what I have posted, simply disable scripting on your IE
and try to get to Jim's site, and press refresh and/or click on one of the
links.

Well you can send attachments as you wish but they can't be seen by
anyone using Mozilla or Thunderbird.

I can't turn off scripting in Mozilla as you can IE just certain kinds
of scripting. I tried with JavaScript off and it seems to ender ok here.
Must be something wrong with IE.

Andreas,

Hmmmmm, it sound like your experience with the website is a disaster....

If you set IE to accept "Session Cookies" which are "In Memory" and not
permanent (??) that may fix the problems...

I did have this problem with members accessing my club site....

I also checked and the "noframes.htm" does exist.

The site also uses some small "Java" scripts... Nothing malicious that
formats your hard drive.

Let me know if any of this helps....

Jim

Jim,

I have added "www.xbasedevcon.com" to my trusted sites -- hoping that I
won't regret that -- and everything is working now! I'm not (yet) sure
if I can afford the price, though, especially if the meals for my wife
will add an additional amount to this. Do you need by any chance another
presenter/speaker, if yes, I can possibly work for (some of) the fee.

I still only get a "404" "Not Found" error if I try to use:
http://www.xbasedevcon.com:8001/noframes.htm

I figured out this problem. The reference to noframes.htm did not point to
the correct location: ./HTML/noframes.htm

This is one of those code paths that does not get tested correctly...

Thanks for finding that!
