Hi Y'all,

I'm located in center of South Carolina (USA).

Anyone know of a UG in my vicinity?

If so, where?

If not, any interest in establishing one?

TIA,

Hi Don,

You better try for a USA user group... that would give you at least...uh....
about maybe 50 possible members .

Al -

I just spent two days with one of your former customers.

He went back home to Rancho Cucamonga yesterday and was so excited about the
amount of progress we made in 2 days.
He said that he paid you a lot of money to help with a conversion of his
application to dBase for Windows and got nothing for the effort.
His goal is to convert his application entirely to GUI by October using
Xbase++ 1.82 and eXpress++ 1.8.
There's no doubt in my mind that he will successfully complete this goal now
that he is on the right track.

I'm sure that I can talk him into bringing his application to the user group
meeting and giving us a demo.

You are invited to bring along the dBase version you were working on and we
can all compare notes.

See ya at the UG.

Hi Roger,

Good one, and a good demonstration as to why we prefer to use no-nonsense
development tools such as Clipper and Xbase++. Most of us here are in
the business of producing stuff that works, and do not have time for hype.

It just occurred to me that it is strange that Al got started with Clipper in
the first place. I guess he was smarter back then.

Cheers,
Per

I guess when Al says he makes 20 times as much as any of us, now we know
how he does it .

Don,

You name the date and I will try to be there. How about the Washington DC
area?? That is only a seven hour drive for me, and they have some great
seafood restaurants.

Terry -

I REALLY like the idea of meeting in Washington DC.
I haven't been there in many years and would very much like to visit again.
I recall speaking to the D.C. Clipper user group meeting around 1992.
There were 150 attendees and I sold 75 copies of dCLIP. Wow!!

Don,

I have spoken with Roger Donnay and Jim Graham about an informal meeting in
the New York, or Washington area. I have been giving this some thought and
will try to have a better answer by early next week. I have been so busy
installing systems that I have not had much time to follow this up recently.

Xbase++ is such a great tool, it has really saved my business. I always
thought my Clipper application was good, and easy to use, but the
improvement with the new Windows program is truly amazing. Onsite customer
training time has gone from 2 days to 4 or 5 hours. We had hoped to
maintain our installed base by going to Windows, but in the past year we
have not only maintained market share, we have added 75 new customers
(almost a 10% increase). Best of all support calls have been reduced
dramatically. It has been months since we have had a reall software issue
related to the Xbase++ engine, I consider Xbase++ to be equal to, or more,
stable than any release of Clipper.

A UG meeting sounds like a great idea, it is always good to get together
with others using the same tools and compare notes.

Hi Terry,

Was really "fishing" for some folks closer so we could have maybe monthly or
quarterly meetings. Have found UGs to be helpful in the past. Been hoping
someone would step forward to organize one within reasonable distance.

Since no one has I decided to stick my neck out. Still hoping...

Now as to your proposal, please keep me posted as I'm willing to travel that
far once in awhile for something worthwhile. And, I know with you, Jim and
Roger involved it would be that; even though I'm not an Xpress++ user.

Glad your business is doing well!

CU,
