Hi Bengt,

I use: VideoCapX ActiveX ....and it works well...I use it in my Alaska app
on Windows XP, Vista and Win 7.

The License cost me $99.00 US.

You can download the full version from:
http://www.fathsoft.com/luff/VideoCapX_Lite.exe

Kind regards,
Nestor

Hi,

Thanks for this link, it seems as they have some usefull tools.

Do you have a sample you are willing to share? I downloaded the evaluation
version, and would like to test it. I'm also very interested in their audio
capabilities, did you try it already?

I saw on their website the barcodescanX, which is also something I'm
interested in. Anyone who has used this? Or a similar product for reading
barcodes in images?

Best regards,
Chris Andries

Hi,

Thanks for the sample. It looks all very straight forward and easy to
implement. It will be a nice addition for my application.

Best regards,

Hi Bengt

You Must first install the ocx before you can use it ....also note that the
videocapx.ocx can live within your alaska xbase application folder.

1) I open the run command in xp
2) Then I type in the folowing for my application:

Regsvr32 c:\tvhs\pgm\videocapx.ocx

followed by the enter key that registers the videocapx.ocx which is in my
application folder...only need to do this once. ...you need xp or higher
with at least service pack 2...because this ocx uses directx technology.

Then you should be able to put some of my sample code into you application
and run it.

Kind Regards,
Nestor

Hi Nestor,

The initial call   Regsvr32 ..............\videocapx.ocx
answered  DllRegisterServer in ..............\videocapx.ocx    succeeded

I discovered that following lines must be added, to make your example
compile OK

#include "XBP.CH"
#include "AppEvent.CH"
#include "FONT.CH"
 Include the Automation Support Library
#PRAGMA LIBRARY( "ASCOM10.LIB" )

I get two buttons: Snap Picture and Quit
and it says "error detected... no camera or activex control"

I have a Logitech Webcamera connected that works OK

What is the next step to make this example work ?

Thanks and Best regards

Do you have windows xp with at least service pack 2?

and do yo have at least 750m mem....

How old is your logitech web cam....if more than 4 years old it could
present a problem with Directx technology.

Did you buy or are you using the trial version of videocap....there is a
difference, if i remember correctly, in using the trial and the licensed
version.
In the trial version I remember installing it according to vendor
instructions first...and maybe it is not required to use the Regsvr32
command since that may automatically be done by the vendor installation
procedure... and so the the videocap activex. may need to be situated in the
vendor folder that has its controls for letting the trial version work..I
did that a few years ago....

Let me know ...maybe I can log into your computer with Teamviewer and have a
look to see if i can spot something wrong.

Kind regards,
Nestor

> How old is your logitech web cam

Hi Nestor,

My Logitech camera is new and VisualBasic compiler works OK with VIDEOCAPX
samples.

Problems starts with this line
oVideo:CLSID := "VIDEOCAPX.VideoCapXCtrl.1"

and I cant find any lic code to enter here
oVideo:License:="Your license goes here... if evaluation do not use this
line"

After
oVideo : create()

error pops up
msgbox("error detected...no camera or activex control")

Could you also give an example or PROCEDURE MAIN,
to get the parameters and the includefiles right for the following function
call  ?
Get_Photo(oFrame, cCustomer_Picture, oDlg_Passed)

It is a great help, if things just start to work.

Thanks & Best regards

After intense testing, I found that if

RECOVER USING oERROR

and next 4 lines of code is taken away, everything starts working. I also
have to add

oVideo:VideoDeviceIndex :=1

Looking forwards to comments, as I don't fully understand why it doesn't
work with original source Best regards / Bengt Ovelius

Hi Bengt,

1) Since you do not have a License the following line must be commented out
      oVideo:License:="Your license goes here... if evaluation do not use
this line"
   *my bet is that you have not commented out the above line?

2) Also I think that the demo is only good for +-30 days; I could be wrong
it was such a long time ago.

3) The RECOVER USING oERROR and following four lines should have nothing to
do with it not working.

4) Making it work could have something to do with you adding the following
line:
     oVideo:VideoDeviceIndex :=1
     could be that there have been other vdeo/graphic device drivers added
to your computer
     in the past and that the main video/graphical device configured into
your computer is not compatible.
    By setting this index to 1 you have forced it to look at only the first
video device driver and not the others.
    * Note This line must be put before the RECOVER USING oERROR line

Have a Merry Christmas
Nestor

as Nestor say you should need it only once,
but remember to runas Administrator
else on Vista/Win7 all goes
to Folder %userprofile%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore
or Registry Hkey_Current_User\Software\Classes\VirtualStore
