Carlos A Beling | Widows 7 -> Widows 10 on Thu, 30 Jan 2020 15:00:00 -0300 Good day. Is it possible to install Windows over Windows 7 without formating the computer and to keep the Xbase++ installed and Thunderbird and Firefox data? Any advise? Fraternally Beling

The only issue we experienced was having to upgrade or AV software as the older version was not compatible with windows 10. If you have a licensed copy of Windows 7 on the machine that you want to upgrade you should be able to still upgrade to Windows 10. Note that this will not work if it is Windows 7 Enterprise... it only works for Windows 7 Home, Pro, and Ultimate. This link goes to an article written in Jan 2020 that describes the process... https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/ The above article references the following link which has instructions... https://www.zdnet.com/article/this-free-windows-10-upgrade-offer-still-works-heres-why-and-how-to-get-it/ The article also advises... Before getting started, I recommend checking for any recent driver updates and BIOS updates (the latter step is especially important for systems that were originally sold in 2015 or earlier, before the release of Windows 10). I also recommend temporarily uninstalling third-party security software. (You can reinstall it after the upgrade is complete.) Then disconnect any unnecessary external storage devices until the upgrade is complete. On both of the pages referenced above you will find other marketing / download links but just stick to the links in the articles. Hope this helps... I normally use Acronis TrueImage to clone the Win 7-Install to a new hard disk and run the upgrade on this new hard disk - that way, in case something goes wrong, you can always go back to your old Win 7 installation. What you have to do (and if you do not know how to ask somewhone who does) is to make a 1:1 drive image (whole c: + d: including boot) to another hard drive (mechanical, ssd) or image it to network. That hp_recovery is probably only barebone operating system. Softwares that do this are CloneZilla, DriveImage, Paragon, etc. Only with that (with separate and verified copy) you are safe to do upgrade. Carlos A Beling | Re: Widows 7 -> Widows 10 on Fri, 07 Feb 2020 11:14:47 -0300 Hi Matej. Good day. Many thanks. I will follow your advice. It is very useful for everyone. Please, does the SSD need to have the same disk space as the HD? I do use near 110GB of data. Fraternally Beling On 07/02/2020 09:59, Matej Jurac wrote: >> "I have a HP_RECOVERY (D drive in the PC. Jim Lee | Re: Widows 7 -> Widows 10 on Sat, 08 Feb 2020 20:26:56 +0100 hi, SSD must be bigger that HDD else Clone-Software might fail ( e.g. Clonezilla ) only Samsung "data Migration" seems to be able to use a smaller SSD than HDD an "resize" data to fit. it also made "something" with Volumn GUID which will be same with Clonezilla so you have to change it on HDD if you still want to use it --- use MediaCreationTool and get ISO file. start ISO from "running" Windows 7 for "in-Place" Upgrade. this Way you can transfer you old data. p.s. disconnect from Internet und deinstall Anti-Virus App before "in-Place" upgrade
Carlos A Beling | Re: Widows 7 -> Widows 10 on Tue, 18 Feb 2020 15:24:57 -0300 Hi Jim: good day. I installed the Windows 10 over Windows 7 after to get the backups and everything worked fine. The only boring thing is that I needed to reinstall some drivers.
