Steffen F. Pirsig [Alaska Software] | New Xbase++ 1.9 beta drop available for download on Fri, 24 Dec 2004 15:19:12 +0100 Dear valued Xbase++ user, dear Technology Partner, dear beta participant, Thank you very much for your patience. We are proud to announce the release of a new beta drop of Xbase++ 1.9. Compared to the last beta drop a lot has changed, namely the support of visual ActiveX components was added. Also, many fixes have been applied to the existing ActiveX automation support. Furthermore, this beta drop introduces owner-drawing to XbasePARTS. Owner-drawing enables the average Xbase++ developer by using the Xbase++ GRA???? functions to draw Menues, XbpListbox, XbpComboBox and XbpPushbutton. Inside the Xbase++ runtime a lot more has changed. First of all, the garbage collector and memory packer have been enhanced for increased performance. Second, the XbasePART concept was refined to allow GUI controls to be created on any Xbase++ thread. Also, the first steps have been made to have the XbasePARTS available in PRG-Code on the language-level. Have a look at source\sys\xbparts.prg for that. We would like to encourage all beta testers to concentrate on the visual ActiveX and gui aspects with this beta. In case you have lost your authentification data please send email to esd@alaska-software.com with HELP in the subject line. The ESD system will then guide you through the process. Initially, we planned to release Build# 315 with this beta. However, due to the timeframe and the fact that we wanted to give you something before or at Christmas, we decided to release Build# 314 as the next beta drop. We are currently working on the known issues of Build #314 and will release the next beta drop based on Build #315 or higher. Furthermore, we plan to have add-on packages such as the ADS DatabaseEngine, XbTools III, ODBC DatabaseEngine and other packages available with the next beta drop. These add-on packages are not available for Build #314. Thank you very much for you patience and have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas. Regards Your Xbase++ development team |
